Spring [Baby] Shower
The menu for this celebration reflected the season and some favorites
When Courtney Sixx, Hollywood’s How2Girl and WLM’s entertaining editor, was planning her baby shower celebrating the upcoming arrival of her baby girl with husband, Nikki Sixx, she did not imagine the event would take place on anything but a beautiful, sunny May day. And she wasn’t disappointed—the hoped for weather coupled with the al fresco setting on the Sherwood Country Club patio in Westlake Village fully cooperated. Even the lady butterflies en route from Mexico to the Pacific Northwest couldn’t stay away from the Beatrix Potter decor.
Well before planning meetings with the menu with the club’s Chef Russell Hawkins, Catering ManagerAllie Friedman and Lisa Gorjestani, owner of Details Event Planning, there was no question that opposed to a buffet, the service would be seated. Courtney says, “I am not a fan of a buffet at seated events. I feel like it lends a casual vibe and this was not a casual event so the choice was obvious to me.” The spring menu truly reflected the time of year. Additionally, the menu reflected California cuisine Courtney favored from Sherwood.
For starters, the perfectly on-point gazpacho as an appetizer had a chile oil and micro greens presentation. A blackened salmon—“I love the salmon at Sherwood,” says Courtney—was a must. Another element that Courtney would not have done without? “We brought in the triple berry cake from Sweet Lady Jane bakery in Beverly Hills. It was the same cake that we served at our wedding.” A garnished trio of sorbet with almond tuille and fresh berries was included in the menu to complement the cake.
Guests at the baby shower like Courtney’s mother, Catherine Hines, and godmother, Tracy Cianflone, received menus on a pastel table setting . There was also a long list of friends. These friends included some well-known ladies such as Heather DuBrow, Gretchen Rossi, Alison Eastwood, Lisa Gastineau and Brittany Furlan Lee. Mark’s Gardens created the centerpieces with peonies, English garden roses, ranunculus, hyacinth and sweet peas. They played into the Beatrix Potter theme complete with petit books and bunny rabbits frolicking among the lush arrangements.
And as a sweet send off, the ladies each received a Bouquet Box, Courtney’s upcoming flower line co-designed with Mark’s Gardens as well as pink boxes topped with silk peonies with a LUX candle tucked inside.
Perfect start, perfect day, perfect end-—and an absolutely perfect menu—to celebrate a special mother-to-be.
