Pampered Parties

A glam tent company created out of love gives back to those in need.

There are three things that Trish Healy has known for as long as she can remember: She wanted to be a parent, giving back would be a lifelong driving force, and she has an keen eye for beautiful  things. What she could not have imagined years later was that these factors would be intertwined as the anchors of her successful and philanthropic event business in Los Angeles, WonderTent Parties.

Australian natives, Healy and her husband, Andy, moved to Los Angeles in 2012. Here in Los Angeles, Healy continued climbing the corporate ladder in talent management. When it was time to plan for a family, “I always knew I wanted to adopt, and from an early age, I knew it would be an older child.” Upon learning that there are nearly 30,000 foster children in Los Angeles, Trish and her husband found Kidsave. This non-profit organization finds permanent connections and families for older youth in the foster care system.

In December 2013 through a Kidsave weekend event, they met 13-year-old Celia, who soon came to live with them. “The connection was instant for all of us,” says Trish. It did not take long before they began the adoption process.

When Celia first came to stay with Trish and Andy, they asked her to make a Christmas wish list. “Some of the things on the list were pretty basic, like socks and braces for her teeth. But then two things on the list had asterisks next to them as mandatories, and they were the ones that tugged at our hearts,” explains Trish. “One was to be adopted into a loving family and the other was to have a sleepover with her cousin.”

Rules prohibit foster children from having sleepovers. Trish wanted Celia’s first sleepover to be special and memorable. However, it seemed what she had in mind did not exist in L.A. Creative companies in Australia who specialize in tent parties inspired the idea of WonderTent Parties.

Launched in early 2017, the goal was to create magical “glamping” experiences for both children and adults alike. Today, WonderTent Parties does just that. WonderTent Parties operates throughout L.A. and Orange County (with plans to expand to Santa Barbara and Marin County underway). A portion of the proceeds from each event goes back to Kidsave, in what Trish has coined her “Good InTent” program. And whether for day or night, a space-themed kid sleepover, a Parisian tea party, a bridal shower or yoga retreat, kids and adults can “create memories of a lifetime connecting to one another in comfort, coziness, style and with a sense of childhood magic.”

The magic of childhood is something many children can now experience in or because of these amazing tents.
