Our editors are out there hitting LA for the best stories and newest hot spots, experiencing much that we don’t. No worries, they are thrilled to share the info with us. The latest My LA lowdown comes from fashion editor, Laura Maged. She’s a bi-coastal babe who says LA is her happy place.

Favorite (scenic) restaurant to take out-of-towners

Perhaps more “scene” then “scenic,” but the garden at Gjelina in Venice or lunch/dinner with views at Élephante in Santa Monica are my musts.

Favorite workout spot

Because what I love about LA is being outdoors it’s gotta be the Santa Monica stairs —170 steps and a free workout!

Favorite vintage/second hand store

Get Dressed in Pacific Palisades

Favorite farmers market

Main Street Santa Monica on Sundays has a special place in my heart as we used to take my son (turning 21) there from birth on up. They always had live music and even pony rides back in the day.

Favorite breakfast spot

Forever it was Nate ‘n Al’s in Beverly Hills, then Cora’s Coffee Shoppe in Santa Monica but my new favorite is Back on the Beach Cafe on PCH. Born on the East Coast, you can’t top eating a real breakfast outside in the sand 365 days a year!

Favorite place that doesn’t feel like L.A.

Venice Canals

Favorite art spot

Hauser & Wirth gallery—with Manuela restaurant, courtyard, farm, it’s a whole experience. In February, Frieze LA art fair is a MUST!

Favorite donuts

Blue Star Donuts

Favorite drink spot

Angel City Brewery for super cool vintage bar, food trucks and beer garden. For frosé, Malibu Farm.

Favorite beach spot

Love watching surfers so sometimes, if I’m sitting then north in Malibu, but could walk for miles as long as it’s on a beach path, so for that, I often go from Pacific Palisades to Venice.

Favorite date night

Drinks and live music by Marty and Elayne at The Dresden Room

Favorite hidden gems of L.A.

Olvera Street, Angels Flight (funicular) and Watts Towers Arts Centers (all discovered by this New York native when teaching the history of L.A. to third graders)

Favorite theater experience

The Groundlings Theatre Improv, Friday late show
