The latest news: The Center for Disease Control and Prevention (CDC) is recommending now that people wear face coverings whenever they go out in public. This to prevent the spread of the novel coronavirus. While in the early days of coronavirus, the recommendation was for those with symptoms to wear masks. But the advice has now changed. Because now it is known that people who don’t show symptoms may still be infected. And therefore can spread the disease. Surgeon General Jerome Adams explained at a White House briefing late last week. “We now know from recent studies that a significant portion of individuals with coronavirus lack symptoms. …This means that the virus can spread between people interacting in close proximity, for example, coughing, speaking, or sneezing, even if those people were not exhibiting symptoms.”
While these masks are no guarantee of full-on protection, even little bit of defense during this epidemic is a smart step to take.
And since there is a lack of face masks available on the market and those that are available needing to go to first line health care workers, people are starting to make DIY no sew face masks at home. And for most, no sewing needed. Here, a roundup of some of the easiest DIY no sew face masks links (videos and print). These, from celebs, fashion bloggers, and crafty you tubers. Take a look and roll up your sleeves—simple ways for you to protect your family.
Materials and basics
The best materials for DIY no sew face masks are tightly woven 100 percent cotton fabrics. Nothing too stretchy if you can avoid it. Scarves and bandanas, if you have at home, work well too.
Masks should fit snugly to your face. And they need to cover both your mouth and nose to avoid any droplets being shared. Perhaps the most important point of masks though is not to be complacent. Even those wearing a mask when out, should practice stay at home whenever possible. If you do go out, continue to practice social distancing and hand-washing.
