A Lifetime of Beauty
Is there nothing this woman can’t do? Christie Brinkley is a supermodel, actress, author, artist, entrepreneur, environmentalist and humanitarian—just to name a few. Oh yes and she looks so good doing all of it. What’s most amazing is we get the feeling that she’s just as beautiful on the inside as she is out.
A supermodel who hit the word wide scene in the late 1970s when she became the only person ever to grace three consecutive covers of the Sports Illustrated Swimsuit issue, Christie Brinkley looks just as good now (better, perhaps) as she did then. In the years between, she has graced more than 500 magazine covers, been photographed in six continents and 30 countries and was the face of CoverGirl cosmetics for 25 years. She continues to make appearances, act, model and be the voice and face for her skincare line Christie Brinkley Authentic Skin Care, products devoted to anti-aging and working with our own bodies’ natural rejuvenation system to get back younger looking skin. We could authentically get into that.
This devoted mother of three—her oldest daughter Alexa Ray Joel is a singer/songwriter like her dad, Billy Joel, her handsome son Jack Paris is a college student in Boston and her daughter Sailor Lee is a student and part-time model—certainly got kissed by the good genetics gods, but Christie also takes serious care of her skin, her health, her body and herself. Even when she was a young model and told to tan daily, she wore SPF to protect her skin and still slathers it on everyday. She is also a fan of exfoliating and does so from head to toe.
A vegetarian since the age of 12, Christie admits her greatest indulgence is a personal chef schooled in healthy cooking. She is also dedicated to working out—even when she did stints on Broadway, the London stage and as part of the touring company for the famed show Chicago, she was conscientious about maintaining a regular exercise routine. She also treats herself to weekly deep tissue massages and monthly Epsom salt baths (more frequently during her stage days).
The key to maintaining her workout routine is to constantly change it up. She has been known to joke that there are things that are out of your control in terms of staying the healthiest you can—in her case that was “runaway horses, helicopters that decide to crash on mountaintops, boating accidents” all of which happened to her and were widely reported in the media—but she does control the variety of exercise she enjoys from kayaking to standup paddleboarding, surfing, skiing, dancing and biking. Christie also likes yoga and even has a push-up regimen she does at home to keep her upper body strength in top shape. It also seems that Christie has no patience for wasting time, doing leg lifts while brushing her teeth and squats while blow-drying her hair.
Her impatience extends to sitting for a mani/pedi so she does her own—preferring neutrals and light shades by Essie and Deborah Lippman for everyday. Her makeup preference when not at events or on the red carpet also veers toward neutrals, while kicking it up with a cat eye when she’s going out. The other beauty secret Christie shares is that her thick locks, which used to be a challenge to tie back in an elastic band, thinned with each pregnancy so when she gets dolled up, she clips in her line of Hair2Wear extensions to bring back fullness instantly.
Clearly she’s been maneuvering the hair/makeup/body thing for a while and what she’s doing works for her. But even though she looks amazing at 62, Christie stopped keeping count. She doesn’t feel like her age defines her so she stopped caring about the number a long time ago. That is the true definition of inimitable beauty and an ageless icon—her confidence is something that all women should be inspired by.
Although if you told us Christie Brinkley’s jeans from high school still fit her, well, we just don’t know if our newfound confidence could withstand that, understandably.
